Peaceful in an Anxious Generation

A Move of God in Our Generation - Part 6

Listen to podcast audio:

What would it look like for believers to live with true shalom and offer that to an anxious world? Our modern culture is deeply troubled by strife and stress, so how do believers remain afloat in what often feels like stormy seas? In this episode, Gary Wilkerson and Joshua West discuss what biblical peace looks like, where it comes from and how Christians can spread it around themselves wherever they go. Such an otherworldly peace will almost certainly be what draws distraught people to God and brings revival to our nation.

Key Points from the Podcast

•  Our culture’s rising awareness of world issues, racism, global warming, wars between international countries, among many others are coming alongside rising rates of anxiety among the modern generations.

• Fear often arises when we believe that everything depends on us. This is why Jesus commands his followers to be anxious for nothing.

•  Culture often sees peace as the absence of conflict or based on external circumstances. True peace acknowledges difficulties around people or relationships but still invites God’s presence into every moment of life.

•  Genuine ‘inner peace’ is only created in the presence of God, and this is what draws people to God and radically transforms their lives.

• The ways that we respond to other people’s wrongs against us, how restitution is made for evil or pain, and how justice is enacted in everyday life is how the Bible defines peace. Restoring something to wholeness and rightness is peace-filling even though the process may be difficult.

• When we manifest true peace and a peacemaking spirit to actively works toward restoration, others around us will be drawn to the glory of the gospel.
