World Challenge partners are working to help those believers who are facing an uncertain future after their nation fell to the Taliban.

Few of us will be able to sponge away the images of desperate Afghans clinging to the landing gear of planes taxiing down Kabul’s airport runways. Some chose to fall to their deaths rather than be trapped in a country that was swiftly being taken over by the Taliban.

Emanuel Rop lives in the Rift Valley, in an area that borders two tribes called Kipsigis and Luos. He is 45 years old, and nothing about his life these days with his wife and four children would hint of his wild past before meeting God.

“My father left when I was about ten, and he is not in my life,” Angel told our partners. Before he was even in middle school, he had already joined a gang, been in fights and tried drugs. “I knew of God as a creator, but I viewed him as an angry God that was disappointed in me.”

In the long-term aftermath of Romania’s revolution, World Challenge’s partners are providing a home for kids who don’t have family of their own.

Up until 1989, Romania was under the control of one of the world’s most oppressive Communist regimes. Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu was eventually overthrown and executed, but the timing of this political turmoil could not have been worse for Romania’s most vulnerable populations.
